Anti-bullying Week
27 November 2012

Last week was anti-bullying week and to mark it, our Friendly Faces team ran a whole school assembly to introduce themselves and explain what type of things they will be involved with.  Please look at the great powerpoint they created and presented to the rest of the school.

Wednesday was also ‘Compliment Day’, the children really enjoyed giving compliments to other members of the school community.  It really helped us to remember how the little things we say to each other, make a huge difference!

Guide Dog Visit
27 November 2012

On Wednesday we were visited by Jan Hankin from Guide Dogs who brought her retired guide dog, Delta with her.  She told us lots of interesting things about how guide dogs are trained and what their working lives are like.  Now we know how much difference a guide dog can make to a blind or partially sighted person, we are even more determined to raise the £300 it will cost to train our own class of three puppies.  Look out for upcoming fundraising events.

These were the entries for the pumpkin carving competition held before half term. We are pleased to announce that the winning entry was from Jeremy Lambert in Class 3. We particularly liked the creativeness of his design , especially the “afro” hair. Thank you to all those children who took part, we have raised 37 towards our £300 target for guide dogs.

South Devon Railway
26 October 2012

On Wednesday 24th Class 3 enjoyed a trip to the South Devon Steam Railway and Totnes Rare Breeds Farm as part of their topic on World War Two. All the children ( and staff) dressed in war time costumes and enjoyed a visit to the railway museum and then a ride on the steam train taking in the beautiful scenery of the River Dart.

The children were able to feed and handle animals at the farm and then returned to Buckfastleigh Station on the Steam train.

We were very grateful to staff at both sites for some informative talks and the chance to hear more about what life would have been like for children during the war.
We received comments from staff at both sites and the coach driver about the impeccable behaviour of the children and how wonderful it was to see them all in costume. One said ‘This is best group we have had this year. The children have listened well and asked and answered some interesting questions. They are all polite and incredibly well behaved. We have never had a group like them.’

Well done class 3.

Pennywell Farm
26 October 2012

On  22nd October Class One visited Pennywell Farm. We had great fun and learnt lots about the animals there.

First we fed the sheep, milked the goat and stroked the donkeys. Then we saw the geese, fed the deer and went for train ride. After lunch we cuddled guinea pigs, rabbits, ducklings, chicks, piglets…but not the hedgehog!   After that we said hello to the shire horses, the alpacas and Dancer the reindeer and collected the eggs from the hens.  Finally we went on a tractor ride and saw the cows, the boar and watched the ducks being let out of the shed.    What a fantastic day!
