On Friday 6th July children in Years 1 and 2 went to Exmouth Tennis Centre for Potted Sports. The young leaders from the PE department at Exmouth Community College had arranged some really exciting activities which the children were able to have a go at. We were very hot and tired by the end but had great fun.[pe2-gallery album=”aHR0cDovL3BpY2FzYXdlYi5nb29nbGUuY29tL2RhdGEvZmVlZC9iYXNlL3VzZXIvMTA0MjczNjc5OTAyOTg2MjgyNzMwL2FsYnVtaWQvNTc2MzQ4NzU5NDkwOTE0NDU3Nz9hbHQ9cnNzJmFtcDtobD1lbl9VUyZraW5kPXBob3Rv”]
Last Friday children in class 2 worked with Jackie Kidd to make an amazing bug hotel in the Glebe field. They have used lots of wood, bark and sticks to create a lovely environment for lots of minibeasts and bugs to move into.[pe2-gallery album=”aHR0cDovL3BpY2FzYXdlYi5nb29nbGUuY29tL2RhdGEvZmVlZC9iYXNlL3VzZXIvMTA0MjczNjc5OTAyOTg2MjgyNzMwL2FsYnVtaWQvNTc2MzQ4NTE0MzA0MDE2OTg1Nz9hbHQ9cnNzJmFtcDtobD1lbl9VUyZraW5kPXBob3Rv”]
Years 4 and 5 had 3 days of adventure at the Haven Banks Centre in Exeter. We took part in rock climbing, bell boating, sailing, kayaking, team building and raft building. Many thanks to all the staff at Haven Banks for making it such a fabulous experience![pe2-gallery album=”aHR0cDovL3BpY2FzYXdlYi5nb29nbGUuY29tL2RhdGEvZmVlZC9iYXNlL3VzZXIvMTA0MjczNjc5OTAyOTg2MjgyNzMwL2FsYnVtaWQvNTc1OTQzNTYxMzAyMzkxNzk4NT9hbHQ9cnNzJmFtcDtobD1lbl9VUyZraW5kPXBob3Rv”]
The PTA have generously provided each child a named school water bottle to use in school. They came in very handy on our hot, sunny sports day! Many thanks to the PTA.
Stunt Cyclist Andrei Burton came to visit the school. He perfomed some amazing tricks in the village hall as it was too wet to be outside. Miss Preston has not been the same since being part of a stunt!
The Exmouth Area Learning Community Olympic torch was delivered to Woodbury Salterton CE School by runners from Exmouth Community College.
The ECC pupils were welcomed through a tunnel of Woodbury Salterton pupils who perfomed an opening ceremony style cheerleading routine for the visitors following an official hand over of the torch.
Every child (and the adults) at Woodbury Salterton took part in our very own Olympic torch relay before taking part in a whole school parade to Woodbury CE Primary to hand over the torch for the next leg of the relay.
Thanks to the fantastic support and enthusiasm from children, parents friends and staff, the event was a wonderful success and the spirit of the Olympic and Paralympic games was alive and well at Woodbury Salterton Church of England Primary!
Well done everyone![pe2-gallery album=”aHR0cDovL3BpY2FzYXdlYi5nb29nbGUuY29tL2RhdGEvZmVlZC9iYXNlL3VzZXIvMTA0MjczNjc5OTAyOTg2MjgyNzMwL2FsYnVtaWQvNTc1NzUzMTgxNDU4OTk1MzI4MT9hbHQ9cnNzJmFtcDtobD1lbl9VUyZraW5kPXBob3Rv”]
Year 6 visited Beam House the week before half term where they all tried out a huge variety of
activities. Some of the activities were very challenging but they showed real team spirit and support for each other as they faced their fears.
Class 1 had fun at Escot, exploring the undergrowth, climbing trees, squelching in the swamp and toasting marshmallows.
Class 2 dressed as Victorian childrenand gave a performance to parents of their musical soundscape for a Victorian Street.
They were also able to show off their newly acquired skills on the violins as the whole class have been having lessons.
Class 2 visited Morwellham Quay to find out what life was like in Victorian times. We visited a school room and wrote on slates. Then went down into a copper mine – it was very cold and dark. Then we had fun dresing up in Victorian costume although it was incredibly hot!! Our last visit was to a worker’s cottage where we were able to see what household life was like and saw lots of artefacts from Victorian times.
