As part of our Understanding of the World/RE learning, Acorns and Saplings visited our local church, Holy Trinity church, next to the school and were lucky enough to have a tour from Mrs Wheeler.  Mrs Wheeler very kindly plays the organ for our school worships and also knits the amazing animals that the children purchase, to raise money for the church.  We learnt so much and asked lots of brilliant questions to extend our learning.

The children worked together to identify the features of the church, such as the pulpit, font, altar, lectern and stained glass windows. We talked about special events that take place in the church such as christenings, weddings and holy communion.

I think the children were fascinated to hear that Mrs Lewis was christened at the font in the church and was a member of the church choir. We explored the vestry and saw the special choir gowns that Mrs Lewis wore! Year 1 and 2 returned to class and wrote a super fact file about the church using the knowledge they had learnt in class and on our trip.
